Chappell Roan's (Blonde! Bird!) Beauty

All the Details for Jimmy Fallon

Last night, Chappell Roan, your favorite artist's favorite artist, graced The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon with her presence. She arrived at the curl extremely beautiful, ready to celebrate the occasion.

During their discussion, Fallon brings up a collage of Roan at parties like the Governors Ball, where she looked as glamorous as the Statue of Liberty. "You're known for your on-stage looks," Fallon remarks.

"I love looking pretty and scary, so my stylist Genesis Webb and I pull from drag, horror movies, burlesque, and theater," Roan says. As for the inspiration for tonight, the word was a bird. Roan disclosed that the movie Barbie of Swan Lake from 2003 served as the evening's mood board. Her trademark red curls were turned into a bleach blonde mane (a wig or hers, time will tell), her eyebrows were hidden, and makeup artist Andrew Dahling expertly positioned feathers to accentuate her eyes to produce the desired look. She represented the Black Swan Odile and the White Swan Queen Odette in the show by donning two distinct feathery costumes.

Forletta exclusively tells us, "The blonde really enhanced the sort of ethereal, swan look we were going for here." It is a wig, indeed! We used a wig and several extensions to replicate Chappell's natural hair's fullness. He utilizes "a combination of the ghd Thin Curling Wand and classic figure 8 waves using hairpins" to achieve her signature curls. R&Co's Balloon Dry Volume Spray is the finishing touch for hair that is exceptionally high.

During the interview, Roan clacks her nails—which we would characterize as six-inch talons—and chews gum. Her nails were created by Juan Alvear. Each nail "looks like the quill of a plucked feather when you look at them closely," claims Alvear. "I used Essie's Artic Jelly and Buttercup Jelly in a gradation from opaque to transparent, then added striation detailing to produce this effect. To complete the look, I added long strands of ostrich feathers. When Chappell performed, I wanted them to have movement and stage presence.

After reading our Coachella interview, the singer's revelation about herself to Fallon makes perfect sense: she planned to pursue an esthetician career if music wasn't her destiny. We hope to see Beauty Secrets in the future, and we would want to know the entire procedure.
